Ready, Fire, Aim! (Ship targeting display)
I have a problem with setting targets in a big battle. When there are a lot of enemy ships, often with identical names if in the same class, it is often difficult to determine which one is actually being aimed at. The distance-to-target number helps, but it can also be ambiguous.
With one ship highlighted on the tactical fleet display (enlarged), it will show a red line pointing towards the enemy target (off screen). If you try to follow this line to the enemy fleet, or try to "pinch-shrink" the display so you can see both fleets, the display will snap to the full battlefield view, and the red line and current ship selection go away.
Careful pinching and fooling around will sometimes provide a glimpse of the actual target with the line connecting it, but it would so much nicer if the display would just easily allow you to see both your ship and the target explicitly. It would speed up setting battle orders a lot, especially for complex battles.

Yeah Smile and another thought...what if ships were given simple serial #'s like 001-999.
It would make it easier to set more complex orders in battle by allowing you to distinguish between ships. Also ad a prefix to each serial number distinguishing class-F=Frigate, M=mammoth ect

Say you just had a scout and a cruiser: it would look like this...

S001 and C001

The serial numbering would be a great help as well as being able to zoom a bit further out. Maybe even have it not lock onto the ships. Just center so you know which one you're looking at currently.
Also, the "outside in" progression of selecting ships is problematic at times. Without any sort of serial number on enemy ships, it can get confusing when targeting the enemy. No fun having a slow battleship try and cross the map to attack frigates on the far side of the map.

Drag and drop targeting would be a godsend.
