RE: Live streaming 48 hour game competition this Friday - Sunday!
Finally, something that's playable! You can give this first playable a shot here (you need to visit the website on a computer and play in the browser)

The game is set in a distance solar system where two neighboring planets have been at war with each other for centuries. In fact, they been at war so long that the two worlds are now connected by a fields of spare parts and busted up spaceships. To keep the cost of the war efforts down, both worlds retrieve parts and scraps from this "between world junk yard" to build new ships with. Help the blue side win by building new warships by clicking on the white modules in space. When you have collected enough equipment to make a ship, click the BUILD button. First planet to reach 0 hit points loses!

(Note: game doesn't yet end when planet hits zero, I'll be working on that tomorrow).

This game was made in less than 24 hours (after I wasted a good number of hours on my first concept); I'm going to get about 4-5 hours of ZzzZ and then come back and finish it ('ll have about 8-9 hours to wrap it up to submit to the compo). Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Hi Roc,
Just noticed an issue playing the game : I had to keep my mouse pointer somewhere about 100 pixels left and below of the scrap parts, in order to highlight and pick them up.

Another issue seems to be that the AI is too smart :-)

Good luck!

Nice job! I didn't have a problem with the mouse pointer. I couldn't see text for the material in the upper portion (the text is above the screen). And the AI is too damn smart!

Some battle commands (hold position, target weakest) might be nice. My scouts would get way ahead of my capital ship and die. As a default, the smaller ship classes maybe should escort the bigger ones? Of course, if you are blowing up the enemies home, you wouldn't want everyone to turn around to go escort a big ship. Would be nice if you could click on a ship and tell it what to do (few options: guard home, kill opponent home, escort nearest ship). Even better if you could select a bunch of ships and tell them all at the same time. Maybe you want a big capital ship to sit on the home and play defense, and all the other ships to play offense.

Missing some sense of what all the parts do. Would be nice if it flashed damage or hitpoints (say, medium laser does 10 versus armor, 5 vs structure, each structure/armor provides 50 hitpoints, base frigate has 50 hitpoints, etc). You wouldn't get it right away, but play a few games and you might know what better to target.

If you highlight a ship, it would be nice if you could track it's damage done/hull/structure. Is my capital ship almost dead, or alive. Perhaps if the color of the ship went from solid to percent health, or hovered a health bar above it to show where it was at?

Perhaps some weapons could go on the home world? When the home takes damage, they would get ejected back out into space? Or maybe you can build a starbase to play defense that can get attacked?

I'm an old-school space-bar to pause and think, then provide directions kinda guy, this fast-paced stuff isn't my thing, but I do like the concept. Could put a pause feature in?

RE: Live streaming 48 hour game competition this Friday - Sunday!
Thanks for all the comments! I'm running on fumes now, so I spent the day tidying things up getting it prep'd for submission. Link is the same as before ( https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6999.../LD30.html ).

If this were to go beyond this contest, I would definitely have the hard choice of deciding to make it slower/more strategic or keep it in the frantic click-fest realm. For the compo I decided to leave it the latter, will probably have broader appeal.

Now I just need to figure out a good name, and I'll submit. Any ideas?
